Alport syndrome severity can be predicted by causative protein genotype

(Kumamoto University) Researchers from Kumamoto and Kobe Universities in Japan have successfully developed a system for predicting the severity of Alport syndrome, a serious hereditary kidney disease. By analyzing the genotype of the causative protein, type IV collagen, with a proprietary evaluation system, the researchers successfully predicted the severity of future nephropathy.
